The second annual American Garden Award (AGA) Grand Prize Winner is Rudbeckia Denver Daisy™, a magnificent update of the classic American Black-eyed Susan. These brilliant 4- to 6-inch daisies have golden petals whiskered in chocolate surrounding a big chocolate center. Named in honor of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the city of Denver, these blooms hold up through rough weather and last for a long, long time.
The American Garden Awards give home gardeners the chance to vote for their favorite new flowering variety from among several nominees. This year, Echinacea Prairie Splendor™ took second place and Ornamental Pepper 'Purple Flash' came in third. Here at Park, we're honored to be one of just 18 public gardens around the nation entrusted with growing and displaying each of the AGA contestants. We had several thousand visitors on Flower Day inspecting all of the plants and voting!
If you didn't vote for the AGA award this year, you'll have your chance in 2011. We'll be announcing the new nominees (and growing them in our gardens, of course!) in just a few months. Be on the lookout and choose your favorite! |

Recently we heard from a customer whose butternut squash, grown from Park seeds, won a blue ribbon at the New York State Fair. And as you can see from her photo, the award was well-deserved! The most amazing part of the story is that this customer has only been growing vegetables for two years! (Don't even ask how many zucchini she harvested from 10 hills of plants!)
This made us wonder: how many Park vegetables are winning glory at county and state fairs across the country? We thought it might be fun to post a list of as many of our award-winners as we could find. Did you use Park seed to grow the biggest pumpkin, the tastiest watermelon, or the longest zucchini at the fair this year? Drop us a line at inet@parkseed.com (and a photo if you have one) and we'll give you bragging rights in an upcoming edition of Park News! |

Fall is finally here, and with it comes all the fun of local harvest festivals and what a lot of us like to think of as a second spring in the garden! It's also a bit melancholic, though, because our plants are bouncing back after summer weather worries just in time for first frosts. Oh, well — more time for planning next year's garden!
